How long shall I allow for my appointment?

It is approximately 30 minutes for new patient appointments.

Review appointments typically take around 15 minutes to complete.
​

To ensure a smooth process, we kindly ask that you arrive 10 minutes early to your appointment. This will allow us to efficiently book you in and complete any necessary paperwork.

If imaging is required on the day of your appointment, we recommend arriving approximately 45 minutes early to allow sufficient time for the procedure. You can find more information about imaging locations and services at:

Occasionally, certain patients may require additional care, which could result in some delays. In such cases, our Surgeons may run late. If this situation arises on the day of your appointment, we will make every effort to inform you beforehand, whenever possible, via phone or SMS. Your understanding is greatly appreciated.

Who can come along to my appointment?

If you require a support person during your clinic visit, please limit this to one person, if possible.
Do I need a referral?

Before booking a new appointment, we kindly request that you obtain a referral from your GP or Specialist.

GP referrals are valid for a duration of one year, ensuring seamless continuity of care.
​

Specialist referrals are valid for a period of three months, allowing for timely assessment and treatment
Multi disciplinary approach

In our commitment to providing comprehensive patient care, our Surgeons believe in a multi-disciplinary approach.

When deemed appropriate, you will have the opportunity to be assessed by one of our Specialist Nurses prior to meeting with your Specialist.
​

For added convenience and coordinated care, Dr. Lombard offers joint appointments with Hand Therapists and physiotherapists, either in person or via Telehealth.
​

We also offer Telehealth appointments when suitable, ensuring accessibility and flexibility for our patients.
What will my appointment consultation cost?

For new appointments, the fee is $300 ($270 for individuals aged 65 and above), reflecting our commitment to providing comprehensive care.

Review appointments are available at a fee of $165, ensuring continued quality and personalised attention.
​

Our cancellation policy: Failure to show for an appointment or cancel with less than 24 hours notice, will result in a $150.00 cancellation fee.
​

For joint appointments with your surgeon and hand therapist, the surgeon’s fee will be $230 for a new appointment and $120 for a review appointment. There will be a separate fee charged by the hand therapist.
​

We unfortunately no longer see DVA patients under the billing agreement with the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Patient's are billed for their appointment as a private patient and the fee can then be partially claimed back from DVA by the patient. We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding in this matter.

To avoid any unexpected expenses, we kindly request Workcover and patients with third-party insurance to ensure prior approval from Workcover or their insurance company for the visit.​

For your convenience, we accept credit and EFTPOS payments for clinic visits. However, we regret to inform you that we are unable to accept cash payments. In certain circumstances, bank transfers are accepted for surgery payments, ensuring a seamless payment process.

How do I find out what my surgery will cost?

Surgeon's fee: Our dedicated team will provide you with a detailed quote after your consultation. It will include the surgeon's total fee for the surgery, along with an estimate of any applicable Medicare and health fund rebates.

Anaesthetist fee: For an estimate of the anaesthetist's fees, we kindly request that you contact the anaesthetic provider directly.

Surgical Assistants: Most surgeries require the assistance of surgical professionals, which incurs a separate fee. We will provide you with a guide to their fees, typically ranging from 15-20% of the surgeon's fee.

Hospital Excess payments: Many health funds require hospital excess payments, and the fee varies based on your level of cover. We recommend contacting your health fund directly to ascertain whether a hospital excess payment will be required from you.

We strongly advise contacting your health fund well in advance of your surgery to ensure that you have adequate coverage for the planned procedure.
Preparing for surgery
Fasting before surgery:

For most procedures, it is necessary to observe a fasting period of at least 6 hours prior to surgery.
​

Until 2 hours before your surgery, you are allowed to consume small sips of clear fluids (excluding milk or carbonated fluids).
​

Our team may request that you begin fasting a bit earlier to account for unexpected changes in the surgery schedule.

Medication:

We kindly request that you inform your surgeon if you are taking any of the following medications, as they may commonly need to be stopped or reduced before surgery:

Blood thinners

Natural/homeopathic medications (to be stopped one week before surgery)

Medications for rheumatoid arthritis and other types of inflammatory arthritis

Diabetic medications including the use of semaglutide

Scratches, cuts, pimples, or skin infections:

If you have any scratches, cuts, pimples, or skin infections in the area of your planned surgery, we kindly ask that you contact our rooms.

These conditions can increase the risk of infection, and it may be necessary to postpone surgery until they have healed or cleared up.

Arranging support before and after surgery:

To ensure a safe recovery, it is important to make arrangements for support before and after your surgery.

You will need a support person to be with you at home on the evening after your surgery.
​

Additionally, you will require someone to drive you to and from the hospital for your surgery.
